Security Overview for Monaco
Monaco is generally a safe destination for travelers. Violent crime rates are relatively low compared with the rest of western Europe; however, incidents of petty crime, including theft of unattended baggage and pickpocketing, are common. Remain vigilant and guard against petty theft while in crowded public areas, including beaches, train stations, airports, trains, museums, restaurants, hotels and bars.
Snatch-and-go crimes, in which thieves, often on motorcycles, use the opportunity of a traffic stop, tollbooth or rest area to open unlocked doors and grab visible valuables, have been reported. Car break-ins are also common, especially of those with foreign registration.
Incidents of civil unrest are rare. There is a very low threat of terrorism in Monaco. Kidnapping is rare and foreigners are rarely targeted. The few incidents that occur are usually related to domestic criminal activity and not terrorism or political leverage. Monaco is home to and a popular vacation spot for some of the wealthiest people in the world who are usually at greater risk for being targets of kidnapping.
